last blossoms before the frost
A sense of urgency is intricately linked to the survival mechanisms that get naturally triggered in traumatic life experiences. Whether an isolated incident or on-going exposure, the felt sense of urgency can vary in intensity and become blended into one’s way of being as a set point. Unwinding this takes awareness, practice, and time. Breathing techniques and gentle, rhythmic movements are just two ways of shifting out of the urgency of flight, fight, freeze and cultivating the counter-experiences of groundedness, peacefulness, and safety. As these alternative, somatic healing experiences unfold, the nervous system can re-regulate to a different set point.
